Description
Villa de las Palmas is 6000 square feet of living space. The rooms are large and spacious. The design and decor is colonial Spanish with carved wooden doors, arches, leather and upholstered furniture and lots of original fine art. Baths are tiled with Mexican tile and the floors throughout the house are ceramic tile. Situated on 4 acres in the Sonoran Desert, the privacy and lush tropical planting around the black zero edge pool are acclaimed features of this property. Large picture windows showcase the mountain view and the pool area. There are private courtyards, fireplaces inside and out, and a semi concert grand piano for those who play. The three large master bedrooms each have king size bed and bath. Two of the baths have a jacuzzi tub, the third has a tub/shower combination. An additional small bedroom has twin beds and a full bath with shower. One of the king beds can be easily separated into twins. The kitchen is in the center of the home, with a breakfast nook. The kitchen has a gas cooktop, electric oven, toaster oven, microwave, dishwasher, ice maker, wine cooler, coffee maker plus other small appliances. The house has filtered water throughout. Washer/dryer and detergent/softener is provided. Outdoors there are covered seating areas, sun umbrellas, gas grill, tables and chairs. The covered porch off the kitchen and living room offers table and chairs for al fresco dining, seating 4-6 people. The covered ramada extends out into the desert garden and features a gas log fireplace for cool evenings or rainy days. The newest addition is a relaxing SPA. It accommodates five to six people with lots of jets and three motor speeds to please everyone. The pool also can be heated, however there is a fee to the guest for heating. The pool is separated from the house by gates and/or door alarms. Supervision of children is necessary for their safety. Indoor entertainment includes three flat screen TVs, WiFi, a library with game table, games and books. The house was built before there were any wheelchair codes, accordingly the house is wheelchair inaccessible. Once inside, the house is mostly on one level, but there are a few steps, narrow doorways and bathrooms that would not accommodate a wheelchair. There are steps down to the pool and steps into the pool. Tucson is a resort destination with unlimited activities. Mostly visited in the winter because of its sunshine and pleasant daytime temperatures, it is also wonderful in the July and August monsoon season because of the spectacular lightning shows, and rain showers which cool down the temperature and make for very pleasant summer evenings. There is nothing more beautiful than the sun popping out after the storm and lighting the desert vegetation against the backdrop of the deep blue, majestic mountains. Photographers of all skill levels covet these scenes and the resulting glorious sunsets for which Arizona is famous. Morning temperatures are also very pleasant in the summer. The city of Tucson area covers a large area, but still has a small town feel. You definitely need a car to get around. West of town, Tucson boasts the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, a world class educational museum showcasing live plants and animals from the region. Near the Desert Museum is the well known Old Tucson Movie Studios, where more than 400 films, television, and commercial productions have been filmed. Also to the west of town is Kitt Peak National Observatory. This observatory houses the worlds largest collection of optical telescopes for astronomical viewing. They have a nightly observing program and guided tours and exhibits during the day. Tucson has several cave destinations. Kartchner Caverns, only recently discovered, is 60 miles SE of Tucson. It has been voted Arizona's Best Attraction by USA Today and is open year round. Colossal Cave Mountain Park is near Vail. Golf and tennis abound in Tucson. The closest resort style golf courses to the house are Ventana Canyon and El Conquistadore. Both are open to the public. We have many miles of hiking and walking trails. Pima Canyon is the closest mountain trail. Sabino Canyon is east of us and Catalina State Park is NW of us. This park has many trails ranging from a very easy stroll to as difficult as you might want. Some meander along the flowing stream bed in monsoon season or when the mountain snow is melting. There is a small ski facility atop Mt. Lemon which is 29 miles away at 9000 ft. elevation. In February each year, Tucson hosts the largest gem and mineral show in the world. You can shop for everything from geodes and fossils to rare gemstones and everything in-between. There are also many horseback riding stables. The closest venue is at Hacienda Del Sol Resort. Tucson is also a mecca for cycling. The new 131 mile bike path is complete. In November the annual Tour de Tucson bike event is held. For shopping and dining close to the house La Encantada is definitely the place to go. La Encantada is located at Campbell Road and Skyline Drive and has more than 50 speciality stores and restaurants. The Apple Store, Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Tiffanys and more. AJ's, an amazing fine foods grocery is also at La Encantada. Restaurants include RA sushi, Blanco Tacos + Tequila and North. Vivace and Flemings Steak House are on adjacent corners at the same intersection. Aviation aficionados should not miss a visit to the Pima County Air Museum which showcases hundreds of vintage airplanes. Art lovers can find treasures at the University of Arizona Art Museum and the Center for Creative Photography and the many art galleries in Tucson.
